LUCERNE VALLEY — A professional fighter from Lucerne Valley was arrested on Monday, June 27 on felony drug transportation and burglary charges.
Luis "Cruzenwise" Robert Trei Cruz, 26, was arrested at 6:26 p.m. in the 10600 block of Meridian in Lucerne Valley and booked into the High Desert Detention Center. Bail was set at $75,000 for the drug charge. Both charges are felonies.
(A well-known Puerto Rican professional fighter, who currently fights in the super-featherweight division, is also named Luis Cruz.)
Two others also were arrested. Corey Aaron Labenske, 28, of Lucerne Valley also was arrested for being under the suspicion of possessing drugs for sale or transport, which carried bail of $75,000, and burglary. He also was booked into the High Desert Detention Center. Jimmie Michelle Goldsworthy, 29, of Lucerne was charged with felony burglary, bail was set at $75,000 and she was booked into the West Valley Detention Center.
In 2011, Cruz was the highdesertmma.com website's "Knockout of the Year" award with two quick knockouts and was given the "Newcomer of the Year" honor, with a 3-0 record in his first year as a mixed martial arts fighter.
Later, however, the former three-sport Lucerne Valley High School athlete broke his hand during a fight. Xrays of his broken hand were posted on the local MMA fan website. He was affiliated with Lights Out MMA and had profile pages on Sherdog.com and mixmartialarts.com. On Jan. 1, 2014, Cruz lost a fight in a knock out to Sergio Marroquin at a Sugar Shane Mosely Promotions MMA event.
Cruz was scheduled to be arraigned on the burglary charge last Wednesday.
